During an interview with Bloomberg radio yesterday,
The loan machine comes alive once more.
Let's pretend
During an interview with Bloomberg radio yesterday, William Quigley, co-founder of the purportedly dollar-backed cryptocurrency tether, offered an existential perspective on his creation:
“Whether or not tether was backed by the dollar actually wouldn’t matter if everybody agreed to take tether and to value them at a dollar themselves.”
Unfortunately for tether fans, New York attorney general Letitia James appears to differ in that assessment. In April, the AG’s office accused the companies backing tether and the Bitfinex crypto exchange of “engaging in a cover-up to hide the apparent loss of $850 million of co-mingled and corporate funds,” then citing the wide-ranging Martin Act in a July filing to assert jurisdictional control over the companies in the state of New York. Two weeks ago, a state justice rejected the defendant’s request to dismiss the lawsuit, paving the way for a trial.
