Wendy Battleson
Art Strategy Partners
Wendy Battleson is the Co-Founder and Principal of Art Strategy Partners, providing transactional art advisory services to private equity firms, hedge funds, family offices and other high net worth individuals and entities. Wendy founded the company after nearly a decade in various executive positions at Christie’s auction house in New York, London and Hong Kong.
While at Christie’s, Wendy was responsible for developing the strategies and deal structures of $3 billion in annual global art transactions, including all art auction guarantees, third party backing off of risk, financial advances, loans and principal trading of art. Additionally, while at Christie’s, Wendy pioneered and raised approximately $500 million from a major private equity firm for “reverse mortgage loans” against art.
Prior to her time at Christie’s, Wendy served as a key member of the executive team at Cendant Corporation (a former Fortune 100 company) in its corporate spin-off and subsequent IPO on the NY Stock Exchange. Earlier in her career, she was the Managing Director and General Counsel of the world’s largest real estate brokerage licensor and was based in Zurich, Switzerland where she worked and lived for seven years.
Wendy graduated from George Mason University School of Law (J.D., 1993) and holds a degree in Political Science and Economics from James Madison University (B.S., 1990). Wendy speaks publicly on the topics of art financing, guarantees, advances, auction default swaps and the art market, generally, and has been a visiting faculty member in Art, Business and Law at Christie’s Education.
