1) You must register to use the site. 2) You must also install a plug-in to enable you to read and print issues of Grant's Interest Rate Observer. (This includes "Paid-up Subscribers" and "Pay-per Download" customers.)
Subscribers: Online access is complimentary with your hard copy subscription, but it is not automatic. Unless you subscribed online, you must also register to use the site.
This is a two-step process. (1) Registration (2) Plug-in Installation. See below.
(Please Remember: Access to Grant's online is subscriber-based, meaning only those who have paid for the subscription should have access. And there must be a name on the account. You should not share your log-in information with anyone. You may designate an assistant to download FOR you, but you may not GIVE someone access to your account, or print out copies for others to read. THIS IS A COPYRIGHT VIOLATION.)

2) Plug-in Installation
As our PDFs are secure, you will also have to install a plug-in on your computer to read them.
Our plug-in is machine-specific, so choose the computer you would most likely use to download your issues.
As long as you have Admin Rights (permission to make changes to your computer), the whole installation process should take less than a minute. If you don't have Admin Rights, you'll have to contact your Tech Help or Network Administrator to help you install the plug-in.
1) Go to http://grantspub.skyworld.com/info/fileopen.cfm, or click on the "FileOpen" button at the bottom of the right-hand column on any of our Web pages.
2) Click on the red link at the top of the main column that reads, "CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FILEOPEN PLUGIN."
3) If any dialog boxes pop up asking to install Active-X or to allow changes to your Adobe preferences, click "yes" or "ok."
If you have Adobe Reader running when you try to install, you will see a dialog box that says, "Adobe Reader is active, click okay to close." That's fine; it shows that the installer actually found the right version of Reader. Just close it and continue. At the end of this short procedure, you should see "installation complete." It really should be that simple.

It's easy to check if the plug-in is installed, when Adobe Reader is running:
Windows users: Click on the Help Menu at the top of the screen.
Mac users: you click on the Adobe Reader Menu. If you see "About Third Party Plug-ins" and under that, "FileOpen WebPublisher," you're good to go.

You probably don't have the FileOpen plug-in installed.
Checking for the plug-in is simple. While in Adobe Reader, click on the Help Menu at the top of the screen. If you don't see "About Third Party Plug-ins" and under that, "FileOpen WebPublisher," you don't have the plug-in installed.

REGARDING THE FILE-OPEN PLUG-IN:
Grant's posts issues in a "locked" PDF format. You will need to install a plug-in on your computer that will work (invisibly) with your Adobe Acrobat Reader. This will take only a few moments of your time and will help to protect both your investment and our intellectual property. This plug-in, from FileOpen Systems, will allow registered subscribers to open issues of Grant's Interest Rate Observer in PDF format.
The plug-in can only be installed on ONE computer in a location . You will NOT be able to forward the issue to open it on another computer OR download a PDF from another location. An additional plug-in may be requested, in writing, via e-mail to Webmaster@granstpub.com. In the subject line put, second key request and in the body of the e-mail, designate where you will be installing the second key. (Home, office, laptop, etc.) This will help us in the future to diagnose problems based on your location.
So PLEASE choose the computer(s) you wish to access Grant's from CAREFULLY. The computer(s) you select to install FileOpen on will be the only one(s) that you will be able to use to open and read the electronic version of Grant's Interest Rate Observer . As always, you will be able to print and take a hard copy with you.
**PLEASE NOTE: Grant's Interest Rate Observer is first and foremost a print publication. Access to the Website is a courtesy extended to subscribers at no additional cost. GRANT'S HAS NO CONTROL OVER THE END-USERS' ENVIRONMENT--regarding hardware and software -- and can make no guarantee that you will be able to successfully install and use the plug-in

I'm getting an error message saying, "This subscription is licensed on another machine." What does that mean?
It appears you are trying to use a computer that is not registered to your subscription. Our plug-in is machine-specific, and we generally only activate one per subscriber. When you get a new computer, you will have to contact us to reset your key. An additional key MAY be requested, but not for the same location. This is considered on a case-by-case basis
The issue is probably related to Adobe Reader X and/or Windows 7.
If you get this error message, you should reinstall the FileOpen plugin. To get the updated plugin, copy and paste the following URL into your Web browser:

If you are having technical problems with the site, please run through the checklist below before contacting us.
Do you get any error messages? Can you describe the problem? Such as:
1) Are you able to log-in? "Logging in" means inputting your Username (e-mail address) and your Password to gain access to the site. If you can't log in: —Is your subscription up-to-date? —Are you registered to use the site? (Online access is complimentary with your subscription, but it isn't automatic, you must register to use the site. If you haven't registered, you must do so. Click here.) —Do you remember your Username and/or Password? Once logged in, you will see _________
2) After logging in, are you able to download the issue?
We use a plug-in that is machine-specific and must be installed after Adobe Reader for you to be able to open and print issues of Grant's off a computer. (iPads work differently, for more information, click here.)
—Do you get any error messages saying that you are "missing something?" A "component," a "plug-in," etc?
— You are apparently able to download the issue, but something else happens? (Blank pages, won’t print at all, won't print properly . .?)
—If you encounter the above, you probably don't have the plug-in installed on your computer. See "Checking for plug-in" below. If you need to install the plug-in, please follow the directions here.)
If you see an error message that states "you are licensed on another machine." You DO have the plug-in installed, but apparently not on the computer that is registered to the account. (Remember, our plug-in is machine-specific). Please contact us via e-mail or phone to reset your access key. Please provide your Username and Password.
How do I know if I have the plug-in? It's easy to check if the plug-in is installed, when Adobe Reader is running: Windows users: Click on the Help Menu at the top of the screen. I'm getting blank pages...
If you are getting blank pages while trying to view Grant's PDFs on your Mac, the answer is usually simple:
The Mac comes with Preview already installed for viewing and printing PDFs. However, our plug-in only works with Adobe Reader. And, even if you install Adobe Reader and the FileOpen plug-in, the computer may still "default" to Preview. If you open a PDF and see "Preview" in the upper left corner, next to the Apple, this is the case. (iPads work differently, for more information, click here.)
There *IS* a way to get the Mac to use Reader as the default application for PDFs, and those instructions are pasted down below. But you may simply open the PDF from within Adobe Reader. (This is assuming you've not just downloaded the FileOpen plug-in, but installed it, as well. You would have seen "installation complete" at the end of the procedure.)
*If you've already downloaded the issue and know where to find it, then skip to STEP (2).*
STEP (1) SAVING THE PDF WHILE BYPASSING YOUR WEB BROWSER: To avoid any frustration, you want to open the PDF in Adobe Reader, not in your Web browser (Safari), because the browser might be using Preview to view PDFs and you'll still get blank pages. So, we're going to bypass the Web browser.
--If you're using Safari, the easiest thing to do is to hold down the Option key and click on the "Download Current Issue" link. (You must be logged in first.) This will automatically download the PDF to your default location. (Usually your Downloads Folder or Desktop.) Move on to the next step.
STEP (2) OPEN THE PDF FROM WITHIN ADOBE READER: With Reader running, click on the "File" menu at the top of the screen. Go to "Open" and locate the PDF (on your Desktop, or in your Downloads folder). If you have the plug-in installed, then you should now see the issue you downloaded open on your screen. If you don't, you'll probably see something about a missing component. Please go to www.grantspub.com/fileopen.cfm to download and install the plug-in.
How do I get the Mac to use Adobe Reader, instead of Preview?
This is not necessary to do, you can simply open PDFs from within Reader as detailed above. But if you choose, you can set your Mac to default to Reader. (Preview will still be the default program for viewing picture files and of course, you can still open PDFs from within Preview as shown above for Reader.)
To do this, on your Desktop or within any window, click once on any PDF to select it. Hold down the Command key and type the letter I, (Command+I) and release. This should open up the "Get Info" box. (Or go up to the File menu and scroll down to "Get Info" and click.) In the Get Info box, you'll see an arrow and "Open with:" If the arrow is facing down, you'll see a pull-down menu with "Preview.app" in it. (If it's facing to the right, click on it to drop down that section.) You click on that pull-down and select "Adobe Reader.app" When you've done that, click on the button below that says "Change All. . ." and you have reset your Mac to default to Adobe Reader.
